An animated series by Russian studio Parovoz opened the summer season of China's largest state broadcaster, the children's TV channel CCTV KIDS, which reaches an audience of over one billion people nationwide. The series "Papers" was produced by "Parovoz" by order of the VGTRK holding company and adapted for international sales by Digital Television. The deal was closed by Signal Media.

CCTV KIDS broadcasts programs for preschoolers, elementary school students and teenagers. Special programming of the grid for the summer season and placing animated premieres during this period is a traditional CCTV practice, and the world's best cartoons, including the Russian "Papers", are shown precisely in the summer period.

About the cartoon

animated series "Papers" in the fascinating form tells young viewers about the adventures of animals - moose named Aristotle and woodpecker named Tyuk-tuk. Each series has interesting inserts "for skilled hands," from which viewers learn how to make cartoon characters from paper and cardboard with scissors and glue. The cartoon is intended for children from three to six years of age, but it's also interesting for older viewers.

The international potential of the Russian cartoon has already been noted before. In 2016 "Papers" was included in the competition program of TV Films Annecy International Animated Film Festival, one of the oldest and most famous animation festivals in the world. The same year, at the prestigious Cyber Sousa International Awards, the animated film took gold in the category "Best Foreign Animated Series". The international jury appreciated not only the originality of its ideas, but also its educational component. "Papers" premiered in the domestic market on March 21, 2015 in cinemas in Russia as part of the project "MULT in cinema".

About Parovoz Studio

Parovoz Animation Studio is one of the largest producers of animated films in Eastern Europe. It was founded in 2014 by TV producer Anton Smetankin and creative producers Evgeny Golovin and Vadim Volya. The studio was established as a company producing cartoon series ordered by VGTRK holding company (Karusel channel) and Digital Television (MULT, Mama, Ani, Multimusic channels). Steam Locomotive's first cartoons were Bumazhki and Mi-bears.

The company's head office is located in Moscow at 11 Ordzhonikidze Street, bldg. 1.

  • "S.O.B.E.Z." (audience 6-10 years old);
  • "Heroes of Anwell" (audience 6-10 years old).

New cartoons in the works:

  • "Cat Biaka and the Good Boy" (audience ages 4-7);
  • "Spaceport" (audience 8-12 years old);
  • "Chik-Chirikino" (audience 6-10 years old);
  • "Forgotten Miracle" (family audience);
  • "Koschey" (the first full-length animated film, designed for the family audience).

International recognition

Animation films of the studio have been translated into 10 languages (Chinese, Spanish, English, French, Portuguese, German, Japanese, Hindi, Arabic and Indonesian) and are broadcasted in more than 100 countries - both on TV channels and online platforms.

  • Netflix. In the fall of 2018, the broadcast rights to the series "Mee-Bears" and "Leo and Tig" were bought by the American company Netflix. Now these cartoons can be watched by viewers in more than a hundred countries around the world.
  • Europe (Sweden). A striking example of the success of the animated series "Steam" in Europe is the broadcast of the animated film "Fairytale Patrol" on Swedish television. The cartoon premiered in June 2019 on one of Sweden's most popular children's TV channels, SVT Barnkanalen. It was a resounding success: the Russian cartoon attracted a record audience for the channel and became one of the most popular TV events in June: the first series, shown in evening prime time, gathered an audience share of 8.9% and came out on top with a rating of 1.3% among all TV audiences over 3 years old; the morning premiere of the second series with viewers from 3 to 14 years old gathered a rating of 7.3% and its share was 85.3%; the morning show of the fourth series with a share of 18.1% and a rating of 1.6% ranked third on the day and was among the top 5 programs of the channel in June.
  • China. All cartoons produced by Parovoz Studio are featured on the most significant Chinese online platforms: Youku, IQIYI, and Tencent.
  • Middle East. In 2020, the rights to broadcast the cartoon series "Mee-Bears" and "Leo and Tig" were sold to the Arabic animated channel Spacetoon, and now the animated films of Steam Locomotive Studio will be broadcast in Algeria, Bahrain, Djibouti, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Tunisia, UAE, Palestine and Yemen.
