Yaroslavl Region's export volume grew by almost 30%

Yaroslavl region increased its export volume by almost 30% in the first quarter of this year, the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation (Minpromtorg) reported.

"Yaroslavl region demonstrates a good dynamics of the economy's return to pre-crisis indicators. The increase in export revenues is the implementation of new export contracts in most areas of the industrial sector. We also see a significant growth in e-commerce. Many tools to support exporters have become available thanks to the implementation of the national project "International Cooperation and Export", - said Deputy Chairman of the Regional Government Maxim Avdeev.

For example, exports of goods from the region increased by 27.2% over three months and totaled more than 212 million U.S. dollars. At the same time, the growth of export supplies is recorded in most sectors of the regional economy, but the leading sectors are machine building and chemical industry, which account for more than 70% of all sales to foreign markets.

"The largest growth has been recorded in mechanical engineering. Export revenues increased by 45% to $92.6 million. In the chemical industry, exports rose by 8% to $72 million. Export of metal products, timber and pulp and paper products, textile and foodstuffs is also growing," said Galina Penyagina, Director of the Department for Regional Development and Foreign Economic Activity of the Yaroslavl Region.

According to the authorities, China, Belarus, Poland, Kazakhstan and Hungary remain the key foreign trade partners of the Yaroslavl region. At the same time, companies are looking for outlets to new markets.

"We see the first stable supplies of Yaroslavl-made ski and trekking shoes to Iceland," Penyaginasaid.
