Russia has created the world's first sub-unit vaccine against plague

The Center for Biosafety and Technology Independence created the world's first sub-unit vaccine against plague.

The institution developed vaccine strains that were adapted for mass production using genetic technologies. The world's first sub-unit plague vaccine was created to test the strains.

Such preparations contain only fragments of the virus or bacteria, which the immune system has to recognise. In doing so, the vaccine contains no whole micro-organisms or harmless viruses.

In addition, the Centre has developed a prototype technology for the treatment of Duchenne myodystrophy. Such a therapeutic approach is being created for the first time in Russia.

To date, natural plague outbreaks exist in the Russian border areas with Mongolia and China.
