Baikal Electronics is actively ordering chips for billion-dollar projects with the appearance of an investor

Baikal Electronics is actively ordering chips after having an investor.

So, in the next four months it plans to purchase three batches of at least 213 thousand Baikal-M ARM processors at the TSMC factory in Taiwan. The amount of investment in this project is about 11 million dollars. The company will receive this investment amid the emergence of a new major investor.

According to media reports, Baikal Electronics has started taking orders for industrial batches of its latest Baikal-M processor. At the moment the factory in Taiwan has already placed an order for 13 thousand chips, said CEO of the Russian company Andrey Evdokimov. By the end of the year another 100 thousand units will be ordered, the same amount to be produced by the beginning of the next year.

The first batch is expected to arrive in Russia in the second quarter of 2021. Yevdokimov noted that this amount will be enough to meet the demand that is forming now.

Previously, the company had only 2 thousand engineering samples of chips.

Baikal-M was presented last autumn. It differs from its predecessor Baikal-T1 because the first chip was made on the MIPS architecture. This architecture was created for processors with a reduced instruction set. The new chips are created on the ARM (Advanced RISC Machine) architecture.

Baikal Electronics specializes in designing integrated circuits and systems on a chip based on ARM and MIPS architecture. Chips are used not only in Russia, but also abroad in energy-efficient computer and industrial systems with different levels of performance and functionality.
