- Vladimir Bogdanov was born on December 3, 1959 in the village of Volipelga, Vavozhsky district, Udmurtia Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic in a family of teachers.
- In 1975, Bogdanov entered and in 1977 graduated from the physics and mathematics boarding school № 18 named after Kolmogorov at Moscow State University.
- In 1977, he entered and in 1983 graduated from the Department of Aerophysics and Space Research of the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, specialty - Flight dynamics and control.
- From 1981 to 1992, he worked in Scientific Production Association Energia as a Category 2 mathematical engineer, where he was involved in the creation of programs for optimal control of engines of small thrust of the Mir space station, and participated in the design of the International Space Station.
